Entry #007.VII.2024

I really wanted to convert the Empire State Building into a huge spaceship; i had a vision of it rising through the upper layers of atmosphere, being in steel gray color with big windows near the top spire, on a cloud of fire.

I wanted to figure out if this can be done, so i bugged Randal Monroe (author of xkcd and What If?) about if it can be sent ito space, or maneuvered in the atmosphere, or even simply raised into the air at all. He, eventually, made a What If? on the topic; i don't remember exact details, but it was really obvious to me upon reading the beginning on it that it wouldn't be possible, since the building is too heavy and fragile. I did, however, learned from that article that the skyscraper already stands on top of six giant ballistic missile rockets looking directly into the ground half-buried, and these rockets would make for excellent engines. These were light-gray with orange accents and rounded noses.

So i decided to go through with the plan anyway by combatting the problem of "building too heavy" head-on by magically replacing all materials with lighter ones. Thus i arrived at the doorstep of it myself. From this point of view a skyscraper had an unusual look, it seemed fairly small, thin, and was also clamped wall-to-wall between other buildings like houses in old parts of european cities. It also had a large sign above the entrance with a number and was of a dirty, gray-brown color.

I immediately set the magic into action, exchanging concrete with light aerated concrete and steel with aircraft alloys. The color scheme shifted, now being light sandy-yellow with green accents, the building now somewhat resembling the MSU in visual style. I was done with exterior in seconds, and decided to proceed to the interior. After a flight of stairs at the entrance, i entered the building.

The ground floor was a fairly tight hallway that led me to a square spiral staircase leading up and up all the way through. I started my ascent, transmuting materials as i went. The inner color scheme was sandy-yellow marble with crimson accents; under my gaze this crimson became emerald-green. I remember a lot of wall lamps with golden handles and intricate cups of cut glass on top. The whole aesthetic looked rather soviet, in my opinion.

On the first floor i fond a small room with a clerk in it. This was a middle-aged man in a crimson suit, who sat at a table filling almost the entire room (due to how small the room was). Here i acknowledged that by using magic to enact such deep change on the building, i am now recognised as the building's rightful owner, meaning all those who served the previous owner (some rich dude) will now obey my command. I was pretty pissed off by this since i had no intention of owning servants and wanted to liberate all of them, but intrinsically acknowledged that by doing so i would leave them all jobless and they probably won't be able to easily find a new job in New York, thus most probably i'll worsen their lives.

In a fit of anger i used some magic on this clerk, transforming his room into a livable apartment (with an upper-bunk bed) in also shades of soft green, his costume also became a soft green robe, and then all this (the guy and the room) got teleported many floors upwards with no explanation given.

Then i quickly cooled off and realised what i did was pretty stupid. I also realised these people would probably make for a good crew for my spaceship, and i needed a crew. Thus, i decided to handle the situation from this perspective going forward, and continued my ascent. From that point, i saw everything in green tones from the start, the changes started to outpace me.

On each floor i would look around in all the rooms, and if i found any servants, i asked what their occupations were, briefly explained the situation, and sent them down to the dining room: i intended to join them once i'm done with the entire building, share a lunch with them, and explain myself in detail to everyone at once. These people were, in general, happy about the change and positively surprised by my attitude, since they expected the new owner to be another rich asshole who wouldn't even speak to them let alone share a meal with them.

There were a lot of floors and people and i remember some of them in detail. I was becoming increasingly frustrated at these occupations, since they were mostly rich people nonsense. I remember a maid in a black robe and a white apron, who i found in a hallway with some saturated-dark-green ottomans lining the walls; her job was to clean the dust. I found another maid in a bedroom with a large queen bed with green covers, white pillows, white curtains and a furry green carpet; her job was to fluff up pillows. I bumped into a cook on the stairway and sent them to prepare the meal for everyone in advance. There were many more that i do not remember.

Then, on one of the floors, i found a dormitory where several servants lived at once. There were cheap bunk beds here, the floor was made of old dusty grayish wood in small long tiles put in a >>>>>>>> pattern, and there was a seance table from the sims 4 in the corner. On the floor there were a couple magical signs drawn with coal, one of them being a pentagram, but they all looked unprofessional, child-drawn.

People who lived here were all magic users, and they were impressed by my magic. I stopped here for some time so that they can show their magic. There was one girl with curly hair braided into dreads whose job was the seance table and then two or three more people who were involved with signs on the floor. These were apparently used by the previous owner to spy on other rich people, to sniff out their business secrets. To do that, you needed to lay on the floor and put your eye against a small hole on one of (the pentagram's rays), which i did and indeed saw a blurry image of several people in colourful suits talking at a table in a clean white room. I promised all them to interact with their magic later some more and look into improving it/teaching them, then sent them all downstairs.

Then, on one of the floors, i found a large bathroom. It had many showers like in a university dormitory bathroom, a floor in small blue tile, tall potted plants around (there were a lot of these on the stairway as well, by the way), light blue walls with wooden-brown-color base, and dim lighting; also an open bathtub in a corner. There were sounds of water of one of the showers being turned on, and light steam dispersing, but nobody was actually using it.

Here i met a young girl with a mop; she was much shorter than me and had long red hair. Her job was - and i got very angry about this on the previous owner who needed stuff like this - to bring hot milk and wine for those using the bathtub, since drinking them while in the bath was a thing rich guys apparently like to do. And this was the only purpose of this girl. I made sure to be especially kind to her before also sending her downstairs; i also thought about how she could've at least been assigned to bring milk to cats inhabiting the skyscraper as well for extra payment, but then she told me there are no cats in the building and i decided i needed to change that before we actually take off. I woke up soon after that.
