Entry #3807.XII.2024

I had a dream about a fanfic on some videogame.

The game was about the player being stuck on a postapocaliptic planet battling monsters much stronger than them, only managing to ever stave off their inevitable demise. There was a colony base in great disrepair with some equipment in it, which the player hanged out in; the equipment included a computer server cluster and some boxes with hermetically sealed doors, called "physics laboratories".

I saw an overview of possible endings: the player either escapes the planet on a rocket they built themselves or, in the last possible moment from a tightening ring of monsters siedging the base, on a rocket found buried below the base, but in both cases the rocket explodes in the air. The player also sat on the top of the rocket, on its nose cone, instead of inside it.

All this was the game. In the fanfic, though, the player started learning some magic, teleported a rocket into a pocket dimension and had a handheld portal into there with which they slayed all the monsters using the rocket's exhaust flaming out of the portal. They then started destroying the base and the servers by grabbing a bunch of cables in hand and summoning a lightning bolt, which sent a million volt to everything attached to the cables frying it all.

The last scene was the player talking to a scientist who used to also live in the base; the scientist had a beige coat similar in shape to one of my coats, but with long red threads hanging down from every button. The player told them there was really nothing "genius" in the destroyed lab, apart from this scientist themself.
